I beat the Onion A.V. club to the punch, although I am fascinated with some of their picks...

...I'll certainly have to hear Josh Rouse's 1972, the Yo La Tengo EP, and get a real version of The New Pornogrpahers' Electric Version (somehow I ended up with a copy of one of their earlier albums, masquerading with a sharpie-written label proclaiming it to be EV.). And no matter how many times I listen, I can't seem to understand what all the fuss is over the White Stripes' Elephant. I'm sorry.

Chris follows suit with a Best of 2003 list very similar to mine...

It's not a coincidence, as we're constantly talking about music. The startling thing, though, about it is how different songs among the same artists on the same albums rank within his list, but not mine, and vice versa. All I have to say is "Transatlantacism" is way better than "Title and Registration."

Fun Times in Mill City

The editors of Cranium, Inc. must truly be fans of mall shopping, indoor tunnels, and sub-zero temperatures, for they've ranked Minneapolis the most fun city in America.

I am, however, happy to see their sensibilities returned, as they ranked Chicago at #5, ahead of notoriously fun cities like Las Vegas, Boston, and New York.

Top 100 Songs of 2003

After a few revisions, two cokes, and an inspection of songs left on my old computer (which has a broken CD burner and makes an odd rattling noise when turned on), I've come up with my annual list of my Top 100 songs of the year. The list includes only songs which I heard for the first time in 2003, which was a tough, but fair criteria. In addition, no band was allowed more than five slots (take that, Radiohead). The judges managed to whittle it down to the following, but had a tough time cutting out some classics (noticeably absent are Phoenix's "If I Ever Feel Better," Postal Service's "Recycled Air," and the Polyphonic Spree's "Light and Day"...and that's just in the "P" section.) The songs were then ranked according to both my most played and my favorite songs (oddly similar) from the past 12 months.

And so, without further adieu, I give you the list:
